REPLACEMENT HEADS

Original vs compatible brush heads

Check who makes the head, whether it fits and what supports its claims before comparing prices.

“Original,” “genuine” and “compatible” describe different offers. Check who makes the head, which handles it fits and what supports the product’s claims. Then compare the price.

Original or third-party?

Listing descriptionMeaning to verifyWhat it does not prove
Original or genuineThe head is presented as made by the handle’s brand.A word in a title does not authenticate the delivered item.
Compatible, made by another brandThe manufacturer claims its own head fits named handles.Fit wording is not proof of identical performance or features.
Unclear brandingThe manufacturer or product identity is hard to establish.Similar photographs do not establish origin or quality.

A clearly labeled third-party head is an alternative product. A counterfeit is falsely presented as original. Don’t judge either origin or quality from a low price or a familiar-looking photograph alone.

Confirm the fitting

Find your handle’s refill family first. Oral-B lists fitting exceptions, and Philips uses several attachment systems. Look for more detail than “fits Oral-B” or “fits Sonicare.”

For a third-party head, check that maker’s supported models. Ask for confirmation if your handle is missing from the list, and keep the answer with your order.

Check product claims

Look for specifications, cleaning instructions, maker contact details and clear return terms. Check any certification claim for the exact product. The ADA explains that its Seal requires evaluated safety and efficacy evidence.

A missing badge does not prove a product is unsafe. Equally, a brand association or customer star count does not establish that a particular head has been independently evaluated.

Compare the cost per head

Divide the pack cost by the number of heads that fit your handle. Include delivery costs and compare similar pack sizes. A low unit price is useful only if you can use the heads.

Start with a small pack if the style is unfamiliar. Follow the fitting instructions. Contact the seller or maker if the item differs from its description, arrives damaged or doesn’t fit as specified.

A practical checkout checklist

  • Is the actual manufacturer named clearly?
  • Does the selected option explicitly cover my handle model?
  • Are claims about softness, materials or smart features documented?
  • Can I contact the maker with a question?
  • Have I read return terms for an opened oral-care product?
  • Am I buying a quantity that makes sense for a first purchase?

Quick answers

Can a package photo prove a head is genuine?

No. Packaging can change, and a listing photo doesn’t authenticate the item you receive. Ask the manufacturer about a suspected mismatch.

Will a compatible head support my handle’s smart features?

Check that separately. A compatible fitting doesn’t necessarily support electronic features.
